How does the meal plan work?

Who is it for?

This meal plan is for all Western students looking to save money while eating on campus. It is not available to students who are currently on the residence meal plan.

How much is it?

The total cost of the plan is $525, which includes $500 in Tax-Exempt Dollars and $25 in Flex Dollars.

Where can I use the meal plan?

Tax-Exempt Dollars ($500) can be used at any Hospitality Services-operated eateries and residence dining halls, where no 13% tax is applied. Flex Dollars ($25) can be spent at over 70 vending machines on campus or with our 20+ off-campus meal plan partners, including The Spoke, The Wave and Grad Club, which are not operated by Hospitality Services.

Will it expire if I have leftovers?

Tax-Exempt Dollars will expire at midnight on April 30, 2025, marking the end of the academic year. There are no refunds on the remaining balance of Tax-Exempt Dollars.

Flex Dollars will carry forward to the next school year.

Which account will the new funds be added to?

You can top up online at any time, with a minimum of $50. Funds will then be added to your Flex Dollars account. If the Tax-Exempt Dollars balance becomes too low to cover a purchase, funds will automatically transfer from Flex Dollars to Tax-Exempt Dollars. Any funds remaining in the Flex Dollar account will NOT expire at the end of the school year.
